  Do You Hemi-Sync?

For some people, hypnosis seems like a strange and dangerous thing, this is because most people have only been exposed in a commercial way.  For example, watching people being hypnotized on a television show or at a Seminar.

 This commercial/entertainment type of hypnosis is very different from self-hypnosis.  In self-hypnosis, you are in complete control and able to hypnotize yourself to make your life better, or change a bad habit such as drinking too much or smoking.  And, in fact, not everyone is able to be hypnotized as quickly and easily, as the people in the entertainment business might lead you to believe.  There is a lot of screening being done to select the most outgoing people; the ones who make the best “subjects” for hypnotism because they are already outgoing, and at a party if given the chance to get a little attention, would probably do these things anyway.  You cannot be hypnotized against your will; you must be a willing participant and trust someone else to relax you completely before the hypnotic trance can begin.

I remember my first experience with hypnotism.  It was in college, at a special seminar put on by my Psychology class Professor.  We were studying the conscious and subconscious mind and he wanted us to get a first-hand look at the art of hypnotism.  I am not a very outgoing person by nature, and there was no way I was going to be hypnotized and bark like a dog, or moo like a cow, or do a dance on stage, or any of those things that I had seen people do under hypnotism on the television.  So, while the Hypnotist was telling everyone that they were getting very sleepy, and their eyes were getting very heavy, I wasn’t listening.  Instead, I was putting different thoughts into my head like:  I WILL NOT be hypnotized, I WILL NOT be hypnotized, my eyes are NOT tired and neither am I and I will not be barking like a dog in a moment!

Needless to say, I did not go into a trance because I was an unwilling participant.  I didn’t want to make a fool of myself in front of all my classmates.  However, a few of the football players and more outgoing people did end up seeing a green elephant and trying to catch it – it really is amazing that this can be done, and entertaining to say the least.

 The reason I tell you this is to make you understand that hypnotism is a voluntary thing, and you must be a willing participant in order to make it work.  That is why most people prefer self-hypnosis, because they can be sure of what will be said to them, and they can concentrate on a particular area of concern for them.  The reality is, you actually enter a state of hypnosis at least twice a day, just before falling asleep and just before waking.

It is this time of true relaxation when it is possible to access the subconscious mind as well as the conscious mind.

In the book “Directed Dreaming,” there are clear instructions on the best way to tap into your subconscious mind and help you remember the things that are hiding in there that would be very helpful to you, if only you could remember them.  You would be amazed to find that there are big pieces of clues about what direction to take as you travel down life’s roads, and by accessing this information, you will find that most of the time, you have the amazing feeling that you are always in the right place at the right time as you travel down the road to success.

Now, on to more hypnosis information.

 Affirmations – Can they work for me?

 Some amateurs who write on the subject of hypnosis might lead you to believe that all you have to do is say affirmations to yourself a couple of times a day and your life will be changed forever.  However, this is not entirely the case. Experts in the field of learning have found that on the average we absorb:

  • 20 percent of what we read;
  • 30 percent of what we hear;
  • 40 percent of what we see;
  • 50 percent of what we say;
  • 60 percent of what we do;

AND

  • 90 percent of what we see, hear and do.

This means that a person cannot rely on just reading affirmations from a script; having them read; or just saying them aloud.  ALL of those things must be used together in order to obtain the most positive and life-changing results.  It is only by using all of the senses that we can “fool” the subconscious into doing what we want our conscious mind to do while awake.

 How to make the proper choices in life

 As an end to this first lesson on hypnosis, I would like to give you a helpful script that will increase your confidence in the fact that you are making the right choices in life.  This information is taken from Ursula Markham’s book “The Beginner’s Guide to Self-Hypnosis, London, Vega Publishing 2002.”  Markham is a practicing hypnotherapist, counselor and business training provider. (NOTE:  If you do not have a good relaxation script, you might want to pick up a copy of “Directed Dreaming.”  It has one of the most popular and easy to use script ever written.  Remember, as you are reading the script, you must Visualize it appropriately as you read.

 Making Choices

“Sometimes you might be undecided about more than one possible future direction and find it difficult to decide which would be the best for you.  Here, self-hypnosis can help.  Suppose, for example, you have a decision to make about which of the two possible directions would be better for you.  Using your favorite relaxation script, relax as deeply as possible.  Then, in your mind, take yourself into a peaceful room where, in addition to your favorite furniture and décor, there is a large television set, a video recorder and a shelf full of video cassettes, all of which relate to you and your life.

In your imagination select one of these video cassettes, insert it in the machine, sit back and watch the screen, Watch as the “film” unfolds, showing you your future if you were to follow one of the directions you have been contemplating.  Don’t try to force the image or to use logic to “make” an outcome occur – just relax and see what appears.  If there is nothing much, try again later or even the following day.

When your subconscious mind has presented you with the future scenario if you were to follow one path, select the other cassette – the one that will show you the likely outcome if you were to follow a different path.  Repeat the process, as with the first video (always remembering the relaxation technique first) and allow your subconscious to show you what is likely to happen in the second case.

When you have “seen” the probable result of following each of the possible paths to your future, you should have a far better idea of which is likely to prove better for you.  If, at that point, you can honestly say there appears to be no difference in the benefits that will come to you, all you need to do is choose the one that appeals to you the most.” (Markham 130).

If you have not gotten your copy of “Directed Dreaming yet, you should get one now, because if you really want to know how to reduce stress in less time, see the chapter that teaches you “How to Take A 2-Hour Nap in 10 Minutes;” you won’t want to miss that one!  You’ll learn how to reprogram your mind quickly with this great self-hypnosis technique, and add more hours to your day.

 I hope you have enjoyed this report on Hypnosis techniques and will put the things learned into good use.  If you find you need some more help in the form of scripts, or a CD to help walk you through some scripts and get deeper into your subconscious, visit our website at www.reawakener.com.  There you will find excellent self-help information including hypnosis, lucid dreaming, and, of course, Directed Dreaming.
